Fountain of Youth

“Travel can slow the aging process, new study says” states The Washington Post. “The positive experiences associated with trips – the social interactions, mental stimulation, physical activity, and healthy cuisines – can delay the aging process, the scientists say.”

When I traveled to India earlier this year, after several years of not traveling internationally post pandemic, a little part of me was afraid to make such a journey. I wondered how the long flight might impact me. How would my immune system hold up? Was I too old?

It can be natural to have fears come up before a big trip. For me, the message was “I’m too old.” for others it can be “The plane ride is too long.” or “That’s too far away from my kids.” and “I’m too out of shape for a Bali beach!” I’ve heard it all, and I listen with compassion but I don’t give the negative voices a lot of air time.

I’ve noticed that the ego has a way of sabotaging with negative self-talk (the “itty bitty shitty committee” writer Anne Lamott refers to) right before a big life-changing journey is undertaken.

Contrary to those negative voices, it’s usually quite the opposite. Travelers of all ages find delight in the beauty of Asia. We dine on delicious unprocessed food. Community gets formed and new friendships are forged. People are shocked that they were able to sleep on the plane. People return to their homes refreshed, awake in a new way and even transformed.

When I travel I feel alive. As if every cell is vibrating with the new discoveries, sights and exchanges. And it shows in my face. And in my spirit. Traveling to India and Indonesia this year, I felt enlivened and heart-opened. Traveling opens my eyes to the beauty of humanity and the interconnectedness of the world. I feel alive in my body and my spirit shines through. It’s like I’m falling in love with the world and myself, eager to learn and experience different cultures.

I’m traveling back to Bali and India in 2025 and I’d love to share these places with you if you would like to join me.

What people are saying:

“Bali is the most amazing place I’ve ever been to, each day I felt such gratitude for being able to experience the land, culture and spirituality. The beauty, love and devotion is something that you can truly see and feel each day.” Elisa V.

“This was my second retreat and I felt like I was coming home to our villa. The staff at the villa are the best! They are so gracious and attentive. Every ceremony was a new experience and every excursion was a delight. Roxanna has crafted the perfect amount of yoga, free time, guided activities and healing treatment opportunities to make this a transformative experience.” Rebecca N.

“I would give you a 10 in every category. I thought the trip was so wonderful, so excellent!!!  All in all, I  can say it was a trip of a lifetime! I adored our group and you did such a wonderful job of bringing us all together. I was so thrilled to see the Taj Mahal. It was absolutely magnificent! And that should always be an add-on. I also thought the same about the old  Delhi tour. So pleased to have an expert like Punam walking us through that time. ”  Mary G.

Every time you leave home,
Another road takes you
Into a world you were never in.

New strangers on other paths await.
New places that have never seen you
Will startle a little at your entry.
