This is a 4-week online series that will delve more deeply into the unique environmental challenges you face collectively as parents in Lamorinda, as well as your own individual childhood experiences that shape who you are as an adult and impact your parenting.  In a supportive space, we will spend time helping you learn to identify and mitigate your triggers. Every class will feature techniques to apply at home, and opportunities to share with the group.

Both Krista and Roxanna live and work in this community. Krista raised and educated her children in Orinda. Roxanna raised and educated her children in Boulder, CO, a community with similar opportunities and challenges.

Krista Kotz, PhD, MPH received a Master of Public Health, and a Doctoral degree in Nutrition and Epidemiology from the University of Minnesota.

For nearly two decades, Dr. Kotz provided strategic leadership and direction for a Kaiser Permanente Northern California (KPNC) program aimed at improving family relationship health. In that role, she also helped guide strategy development for KPNC’s Advisory Council on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE’s) and Trauma/Resilience Informed Care. Dr. Kotz has a personal and professional passion for addressing ACE’s and helping families build resilience, and is currently serving as a clinical consultant for a statewide ACE’s initiative.

Having raised two children in Orinda, Dr. Kotz is keenly aware of the opportunities and challenges that face families in the Lamorinda area. She is committed to help make the journey easier and more rewarding for both parents and children in the area by offering insights and guidance she wishes she would have had.

Roxanna Smith, MA received a Master in Feminist Psychology with a concentration in Multicultural Awareness from New College of California.

Roxanna is a counselor, group facilitator, retreat leader and yoga & meditation teacher. Roxanna has a gift for teaching simple meditation practices that have a profound and immediate effect. She breaks down the elusive concept of Presence and shares easy, practical tools to use daily for maximum impact. She currently teaches at Growing Light Montessori School in Lafayette. She is the very proud mother of a senior in high school and a junior in college.
